Samarqand Plaza hotel had been opened as part of recent celebrations to mark Samarkand’s 2750 years anniversary. Hotel is not conveniently located for leisure tourists, it will take at least 25 minute walk at least to get to historical center, but in immediate proximity to both business part of city and some historical sights of the Old City. It will take just a short walk to the Bazaar (15 minutes) and from there another short battle-march to Registan Square, or just 5 minutes in a taxi.

At the moment this is the best and the only truly 4 star hotel in Samarkand. All other hotels are either family run guest houses with 3 stars at best. Though other hotels might be better located towards the historical sights but Plaza is far superior when it comes to service or comfort. It used to be called Registon Plaza or the President hotel so don't be confused when people use different names towards it. It is the biggest hotel in the city with approximately 150 rooms. It is a new building with a huge inner patio. It's very popular with photo shoots for the weddings, you'll see many newweds coming there to take professional pictures.

Although Uzbekistan is an absolutely heart warming place with the ultimate love and admiration towards the guests, life there can be tough. You should understand that the city very often (almost daily) has problems with electricity, heating or water. So when choosing a hotel for your stay, you should consider the one that offers water supplies and electricity station, and there aren't many of them. Plaza is one of the rarest hotels where you will never stay without electricity or without water, where you would have a warm heated room or would have free wifi. It also offers gym and sauna, which is pretty normal for any 4 stars hotel in Europe but you would not find it anywhere else in Samarkand.

Spacious and comfortable rooms are beautifully furnished providing satellite TV, internal and IDD phone, WI-FI internet, mini-bar, air-condition and well-equipped bathrooms. A special offer for VIP’s is luxurious rooms adorned in Spanish style, with a separate living room and bathroom boasting of special high-pressure showers. Rooms are of generous size, high ceiling, light and rather spacious. Mini bar though is completely empty and serves as fridge mainly, also no kettle to make your own tea/coffee in the room. Rooms are clinically clean and very quiet, so you are guaranteed to have a good night sleep if you can stand the surprisingly hard mattress, but this is a matter of taste!

Breakfast is very good, in the rest the eating is a bit of a problem: the only "recommended" restaurant is in 20 minute taxi ride away (not much fun at night), and not really worth it when you get there. Restaurant is decorated in classical style, where guests feel the atmosphere of romantic and good mood. It is possible to taste the national meals and Europe cuisine at the restaurant. Enjoying the cozy atmosphere of bar and restaurants, will be offered a wide variety of European meals and Uzbek cuisine but food isn’t delicious. The hotel staff is very helpful and gives you good recommendations on where to eat.
