Platan is a nice clean small hotel attached to the 'Platan' restaurant. A very well maintained building in an attractive neighbourhood in a quiet street. The location is not brilliant, more or less near the center where it would take a good walk (around half an hour) to get there, but taxis are cheap and plentiful.
Walk down Mironshokh Mirzo to main street Mirzo Ulug'bek, turn left and follow it as far as you can go (past Independence Square, a park with fountains) till you reach a "T" junction. In front of you will be a multistorey building with a mesh facade and flanked on either side by another building. Walk to the right of the central building to the parking area behind. Continue straight through the car park to a paved path to a stairway (partly blocked by concrete debris, but passable). Go down the stairs to a pedestrian bridge over a highway. Cross over the bridge and continue walking. You will arrive at the side of the Registan.
There are not many decent restaurants nearby which means eating in the hotel all the time. The building does not have a lift-elevator, but staff will take your luggage to and from your room. There is a useful convenience store, not far from the hotel, at the corner of main street Mirzo Ulug'bek ko'chasi and pedestrian street Mustaqillik ko'chasi, which also has a few simple restaurants and shops.
The hotel has a free shuttle from and to the railway station, which you should arrange ahead of your arrival so that you can be met.
The rooms are very large and comfortable. All furniture and equipment is in good state and clean. Beds are quite comfortable. Robes in the bathroom provided for added comfort. Mineral water and tea maker provided. The flat-screen TV is above the work desk, with a bar fridge underneath. The TV provides about a dozen channels in Uzbek, Russian, English, Italian, French and German. The WiFi and air conditioning work well.
The large, spacious wardrobe-closet contain a room safe large enough to contain an average laptop. The coffee-tea making facilities includ a Keurig coffee-making machine and capsules. The openable, double-glazed windows face the courtyard and seal tightly against the frame, thus excluding outside noise. They have privacy curtains and two sets of light-reducing curtains, one set on either side.
The bathrooms are clean and modern with recessed lighting. They are provided with a shower stall only and efficient hot water. Toiletries include solid soap, shampoo, bath gel, dental set, shower caps and sanitary bags. A shaving-makeup mirror with a light is attached to the wall. Also provided are bath towels, hand towels, wash cloths and bath mats.
Housekeeping is thorough, efficient and meticulous. Replaced daily are free bottles of water, one flat and one sparkling. You could take additional free water from a fridge next to the reception counter in the lobby.
Breakfast is good and is served in a lovely garden next door. It is a buffet style with some standard items, some variations on a theme (e.g. pastry) and a menu for hot food to choose from, but not all on the menu available all the time.
Staff is pleasant, helpful, cooperative and informative.
Small boutique hotel with amazing design, very friendly and helpful stuff! Location is not ideal though, slighly away from city centre.
