Hotels
The new family run Latif hotel is located in one of picturesque places of the ancient Samarkand city. The hotel is slightly away from city centre so one would need to have a taxi to get to major tourist landmarks, but with taxis ridiculously cheap ($2-3 for a ride) that should not be of much problem. A very good restaurant known even outside Samarkand is just 5 minute walk and where you can try the best of Uzbek cuisine.
The owner and administrator is friendly Latif-aka who will greet you as a personal family member. Hotel staff will use all the to make you will at home. You can climb to the hotel's roof and watch surroundings, but the general view would be mainly of rooftops. No major sightseeing in a view since the hotel is a bit distant from the city centre. On the positive side the area is very quiet.
The hotel is very small with just 7 double/twin rooms. Rooms are decent in size, have powerful AC, TV and basic furniture to make your stay comfortable. Private bathrooms are decently equipped, clean and tidy.
There is a small swimming pool in hotel's courtyard, free Wi-Fi and a small restaurant. You can sit in courtyard in the tapchan and have a green tea which is available at request at any time free of charge.
Breakfast is very good and is served in a very inviting dining hall decorated with a lot of wood carving done a local Uzbek style. Typical breakfast will include pancakes, three types of porridge (changed on a daily basis), eggs, butter, bread, tea, sausages served by the same all-the-time-smiling Latif-aka.
Good place with very friendly owners but slightly away from tourist centre.
