Caravan Serail Chorrakha Hotel is a small hotel located in the heart of the old town of Samarkand. It is located in one of the oldest districts of the city - Chorrakha, not far away from Khodja Zudmurod Mosque dated from XV-th century. This is a pleasant hotel in a lovely setting with attractive lobby and dining area, but with a short walk to the sights. The hotel has a marvellous door which leads to a spacious garden area with divans and roses. The lobby is also quite nice, with an adjoining bright breakfast area looking out over the garden.
Caravan Serail Chorrakha Hotel is surrounded by the well-known historical monuments. They are within walking distance from the hotel (The Registan is 15 minutes, Bibi Khanum 5 minutes, Shah i Zinda 10 minutes, The Gur Emir 15-20 minutes). The oriental Bazar - a local market, with its endless rows of goods will demonstrate the colourful life of ancient Samarkand. Very peaceful place and have wonderful staff and a great Divan waiting you in courtyard. There are several good restaurants nearby.
The hotel offers 14 comfortable individually styled rooms with original features and furniture designed in traditional style. Room amenities include mini bars, satellite television, desk, internet access, direct-dial phone, lamp, comfortable beds and good air-conditioning. All is quite basic but sufficient for a couple of days stay. Adornment of the rooms features a pleasant blend of modern Uzbek style, decorated with paintings of famous sights of Samarkand made by local painters. Beds are a small and hard. Small bathrooms are equipped with showers and sparsely furnished. Toilet and showers are clean. The selling points for the hotel are really the inviting courtyard, the breakfasts and the evening meals, all freshly made and yummy. They even produce their own Uzbek style bread, very tasty and definitely worth trying. The garden is very nice and here you can relax from you day-walking-tours in Samarkand.
Getting into the Yard, guest feel as traveling for centuries back, the wall-paintings show the fragments found during the archaeological excavations of the old city known as Afrosiyob. Trees and flowers of the yard create quite a romantic oriental atmosphere. Wonderfully decorated Breakfast Hall is a great example of the local craftsmen masterpiece. The ceiling and walls of the hall have a very elegant decor made of ganch (alabaster). Bar Citadel, a large terrace opened when the weather allows for the main entertainments. Right from the balcony terrace the legendary Bibi -Khanim Mosque is clearly seen.
Breakfast is quite good (not buffet style), you get freshly baked pancakes and lots of fresh fruit.
Wi-Fi is not working. Most of the staff speak poor English and in need of proper training, but generally friendly and helpful.
Good budget choice for stay in Samarkand. Authentic local style family run hotel with minor deficiencies in service. Could be highly recommended with a little more initiative and drive! (Or silver?) ;)))
