The official launch of Uzbekistan's Year of Tourism in China took place in Beijing.
The event was organized by the Embassy of Uzbekistan in China, the Uzbekistan Tourism Committee, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China, and the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
The opening ceremony saw the participation of representatives from various Chinese ministries, leading tourism companies, cultural organizations, and media outlets, including journalists and bloggers.
The event highlighted the significant reforms implemented in Uzbekistan’s tourism sector in recent years, focusing on the improved offerings for foreign tourists traveling to Uzbekistan and showcasing its tourism potential and opportunities.
Lu Yingchuan, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of China, remarked that Uzbekistan is emerging as an increasingly attractive tourist destination for Chinese travelers.
Zurab Polikashvili, Secretary-General of the UNWTO, praised Uzbekistan's high tourism potential and emphasized that the organization would continue to foster strong collaboration with the country in the tourism sector.
The ceremony also featured a business forum focused on tourism and investment, presentations, and B2B meetings.
A cultural segment included a concert featuring Uzbek national songs and Uzbek dances performed by local artists. Additionally, guests were invited to enjoy a traditional Uzbek food, offering a great variety of Uzbek national cuisine.
As part of the Year of Tourism initiative, a series of cultural, tourism, and economic events will take place across various cities in China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Xi'an, Tianjin, Shenzhen, and Chengdu. These events will feature cultural exhibitions, media broadcasts, and other promotional activities, inviting Chinese travelers to visit Uzbek cities, such as Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva and others/
In related news, on December 1, 2024, the foreign ministers of Uzbekistan and China, Bakhtiyor Saidov and Wang Yi, signed an intergovernmental agreement to waive visa requirements. The agreement allows citizens to travel between the two countries for up to 30 days without needing a visa. The agreement will come into effect once the respective domestic procedures are completed.
