Uzbekistan to enhance cooperation in the tourism sector with Belgium

A meeting between the diplomats of the Uzbek Embassy in the Benelux countries and the Chief Executive Officer of the Brussels Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BECI) Olivier Wilcox was held. The sides discussed issues of promoting the tourism potential of Uzbekistan in Belgium.

Olivier Wilcox said that over 6,000 tourism companies are members of BECI. He stressed that Uzbekistan is a new market for most of them.

“As a result of recent geopolitical changes, the global tourism market is also undergoing major shifts. Therefore, the eyes of European tourists, including Belgian tourists, are turning to new travel destinations. Given this, there will be good opportunities to expand ties with Uzbekistan in the field of tourism,” Olivier Wilcox said.

During the meeting, it was noted that tourists wishing to travel to Uzbekistan from Belgium should pay attention to activities aimed at raising awareness of our country. In particular, in addition to expanding the scope of cooperation with local tour operators and travel agencies, an increase in the number of tourists visiting Uzbekistan is also facilitated by an increase in information, opinions, comments, personal reviews and impressions about Uzbekistan on the Internet, in particular, on portals such as Google, Tripadvisor and Yelp.

According to Olivier Wilcox, the most significant layer of potential travelers in Belgium is doctors.

“Uzbekistan is the land where the founder of medicine Abu Ali Ibn Sina was born. Therefore, it would be very interesting for Belgian tourists if special tour packages are developed and given the opportunity to travel in the footsteps of Ibn Sina,” said the Executive Director of BECI.

Following the meeting, it was decided to work out the issue of organizing a study tour to Uzbekistan for a group of specially selected Belgian travel companies and travel agencies that are members of BECI and wish to cooperate with Uzbekistan.
