Uzbekistan highlighted by Poland Media: “Gateway of tourism of Uzbekistan – Samarkand”

The famous monthly Polish magazine "Swiat Elit" ("Elite World") published an article about Uzbekistan titled "Samarkand - the new gates of tourism in Uzbekistan".

The article begins with information about the summit of the SCO heads of state, held in Samarkand in September 2022. “For a few days, one of the oldest cities on the planet, Samarkand, has become the center of world politics,” the publication states. “UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo said at the summit that the UN is engaging with the SCO, the leading force in regional diplomacy in Eurasia, on many issues, including security, the situation in Afghanistan and the fight against terrorism.”

The article states that the humanitarian space of the SCO has revealed to the world the greatest thinkers, outstanding scientists, pioneers and cultural figures, whose contribution to world civilization is invaluable. Of the more than a thousand UNESCO World Heritage Sites, almost one in eight is located in the SCO space. A stable dialogue between various cultures and civilizations has been established within the framework of the organization.

According to the magazine, in August 2022, the historical and ethnographic park "Eternal City" was opened in the tourist capital of Uzbekistan – Samarkand, which is another tourist site of Uzbekistan among many others. The new tourist center in Samarkand is a cultural and tourist facility in a new modern format. Tourists and visitors of the Eternal City will have the opportunity to observe how carpets are born, see the work of silk and jewelry craftsmen of Uzbekistan, lacquer miniatures and wood carvings, as well as get acquainted with Uzbek national costume gallery and many other interesting corners of Samarkand city. Tourists visiting Uzbekistan’s Samarkand will now have an opportunity be able not only to taste Uzbek national dishes, but also the best vintage wines produced in Uzbekistan.

The article reports that health tourism in Uzbekistan will become another direction of the new tourist complex “Eternal City”. The medical cluster of the resort is represented by four Wellness Park Hotels in the form of wooden villas. Each of them will work according to programs designed for a comprehensive medical examination and improvement of the body. The business part of the new tourist complex in Samarkand is separated by a rowing canal. A congress hall and four premium-class hotels have been built here.

In conclusion, the article emphasizes that the new airport, congress halls, parks, and other entertainment and recreation complexes created in Samarkand will turn into new tourism gates and a “visiting card” of New Uzbekistan. The multidisciplinary center located in Samarkand, in addition to the Eternal City, includes 8 hotels, an amphitheater and other facilities. It is capable of serving 2 million tourists a year. “It is planned to increase the number of foreign tourists visiting Samarkand to more than 1.5 million people in the coming years,” sums up Swiat Elit magazine. “The number of tourists visiting Uzbekistan is expected to increase from the current 2 million to 9 million in the next five years.”

Having been an historic crossroads for centuries as part of various ancient empires, Uzbekistan’s food is very eclectic. It has its roots in Iranian, Arab, Indian, Russian and Chinese cuisine.

Though identified with the Persia, the Zoroastrism probably originated in Bactria or Sogdiana. Many distinguished scholars share an opinion that Zoroastrianism had originated in the ancient Khorezm. Indeed, today in the world there were found 63 Zoroastrian monuments, including those in Iran, India, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Thirty-eight of them are in Uzbekistan, whereas 17 of these monuments are located in Khorezm.

One of Islam's most sacred relics - the world's oldest Koran that was compiled in Medina by Othman, the third caliph or Muslim leader, is kept in Tashkent. It was completed in the year 651, only 19 years after Muhammad's death.

Tashkent is the only megapolis in the world where public transport is totally comprised of Mercedes buses. And due to low urban air polution it is one of the few cities where one can still see the stars in the sky.

You would be surprised to know that modern TV was born in Tashkent. No joke! The picture of moving objects was transmitted by radio first time in the world in Tashkent on 26 of July 1928 by inventors B.P. Grabovsky and I.F. Belansky.

Babur’s great great Grandson was Shah Jahan, who built the Taj Mahal.

Uzbekistan was once a rum producig country. There is still a real arboretum in Denau (city near Termez on the border with Afghanistan), grown from a selection station that studied the prospects of plant growing in the unusual for the Soviet Union subtropical climate of Surkhandarya region: only here in the whole of the USSR sugar cane was grown and even rum was produced!

Uzbekistan has been ranked one of the safest countries in the world, according to a new global poll. The annual Gallup Global Law and Order asked if people felt safe walking at night and whether they had been victims of crime. The survey placed Uzbekistan 5th out of 135 countries, while the UK was 21st and the US 35th. Top five safest countries:
