
Consul General of Uzbekistan Abdurakhmon Makhmudov gave an interview to Big City Media 24 magazine.
The magazine invites readers to visit Uzbekistan, in particular, the international tourist complex “Silk Road Samarkand”, which is the center of business and health tourism in Central Asia.
The diplomat told the publication that in August 2022, a multi-profile tourist complex “Silk Road Samarkand” was created in Samarkand, combining cultural, gastronomic, medical and business tourism facilities, offering tourists taking a tour to Samarkand another destination point in Uzbekistan.
The complex was built on the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev with the goal of turning the city of Samarkand into a regional tourist and business center.
“The name “Silk Road Samarkand” was not chosen for this complex by chance,” said the Consul General. “The Great Silk Road passed through Uzbekistan from the 2nd to the 16th centuries BC, and this region was one of the important crossroads of mutual trade, economic and cultural exchange.”
The complex is located on an area of 260 hectares and consists of 8 hotels with 1200 rooms, 14 villas, a conference center, restaurants, gardens, boulevards and shopping areas. There is also an ethnographic park with a unique amphitheater that rotates 360 degrees in 60 seconds - the Eternal City complex.
In the interview, it was also emphasized that in 2022 the Samarkand International Airport was completely reconstructed, and it became much easier for tourists to travel to Samarkand. The air terminal building is built in the shape of an open book, symbolizing the work of the great Uzbek scientist Mirzo Ulugbek “Zizhi Jadidi Koragoniy”.
